February 2018 Newsletter

Updated: Jan 30, 2019

The past month has been jam packed full of fun! We ended January with a mixer with Sigma Phi Epsilon, where we played Cards Against Humanity and then started February with a sisterhood, where we made Valentine’s Day cards for residents at Bickford Senior Living!

The third of February, sisters were encouraged to go to Greek Leaders Retreat, where they would get to know other leaders, network with other Greeks, and learn how to succeed in their new position. President, Rachel Kerger, reports her thoughts on the experience: “The Greek Leaders Retreat was a great way for me to learn about all of the connections that I have on the University of Northern Iowa’s campus! It was so helpful, not only meeting the people who are in my same position in different chapters, but also to figure out things that have been working for them! It is truly a blessing to have so many wonderful leaders on campus!”

The following Monday, we had a mixer with Pi Kappa Alpha, where we watched Disney movies and the weekend after, we had Mom’s Day! Moms were invited to the house to paint mini plant pots and then to Doughy Joey’s for lunch. It was a fantastic day filled with lots of love and smiles!

The following Monday, we had our first recruitment workshop for new recruiters, where we introduced terms and practiced conversations! The same week, we had a Galentines sisterhood, where sisters appreciated each other through sweet messages and candy! The following Friday, we had Date Night at Casey’s and the theme was your favorite holiday!

We also pledged two new members through informal recruitment: Savannah Rowley and Bella Patel! We are beyond thrilled to have them and was sure to give them a warm welcome!

Welcome to Bella and Savannah

[Mom's day] was a fantastic day filled with lots of love and smiles!

The same week, we had a mixer with Gamma Phi Beta, where we played games and the weekend after, we had a sisterhood at Get Air trampoline park! The following Friday, we had a Disney sleepover sisterhood! So many sisters came to test their knowledge in Disney trivia and play Disney related games! Sisterhood Director, Rachel Fielweber did such an amazing job planning and leading the sisterhood!

We also had our second recruitment workshop for all recruiters, where we had Philanthropy Vice President, Abbey Browning, share how to talk about our philanthropy, Autism Speaks and reflected on what Alpha Xi Delta means to us. The same week, we had a sisterhood, where we played Just Dance!

As sisters prepare for their spring breaks, the Philanthropy team is hard at work preparing for our first annual Glow Run 5K with the goal of raising money for Autism Speaks! It is April 21st, with check in at 7:00 pm and the start of the race at 8:00 pm, at Big Woods Lake and Recreation Area. You can register using the following link: http://act.autismspeaks.org/site/TR?fr_id=3987&pg=entry.

Looking ahead, we have World Autism Awareness Month coming up in April and Light It Up Blue on April 2nd! Keep a look out for the next newsletter to stay updated!
