Light It Up Double Blue and Gold

Sisterhoods are always the highlight of our month. In April, we had two different sisterhoods, one was hosted at the Northeast Iowa Food Bank where we got to volunteer with our sisters to impact our community. We also took one Thursday afternoon and had a sisterhood where to chalked the sidewalks to promote our 5k run. This coming Wednesday, on May 1st, we will have out last sisterhood of the semester where we will be celebrating May Day. Casey, our Sisterhood director, said this about the month’s sisterhoods, “We had a fun volunteer sisterhood at the Northeast Iowa Food bank, we chalked and played games which was a fun way to advertise for our fundraiser and hangout together! We are looking forward to our May Day sisterhood next week where we’ll make May Day baskets for the sisters.” Shout out to Casey for all that she has done this semester!

We also had our last mixer this past month with the men of Kappa Sigma. Our mixer chair, Hannah Jaros, had this to say about the day, “ Since our mixer was super close to Easter we decided to do a Easter Egg Search! It was a lot of fun to hide the eggs in our house and then along the way to the Kappa Sigma house! Then we dyed Easter eggs and got to eat candy!” Thanks to the men of Kappa Sigma for the great afternoon!

This month’s inspire we talked about decision making and learned what type of decision makers we are. This program, which came out of the Alpha Xi Delta national inspire manual, had us role playing, learning, and above all laughing as we discovered the different types of decision makers we are and what their positive attributes were in addition to how we could become better decision makers. Program Director, Sarah Ritondale, made this comment about last Sunday’s meeting, “People seemed to be enjoying themselves and [were] laughing when our 2 sisters role played a tough decision making scene.” What a great meeting to end the semester on!

This Month’s

TOP STORIES

Philanthropy

This past weekend, on the 27th of April, we held our philanthropy event. Originally supposed to be a 5k, Iowa had other plans for our event and snowed out the running portion of our night. Instead of hosting the run outside, we brought everyone inside our house and had a blast as people came to help us Light It Up Blue. Maddie Crichton, our Philanthropy Vice President, mentioned that “I thought the philanthropy event went really well! Even though the weather wasn’t the best, we still had a great turnout and raised a lot of money for Autism Speaks!” Savannah Rowley, our Ritual Director similarly remarked that, “I think our event turned out great. Even though the weather didn't cooperate to have the run, Maddie and the philanthropy team did a good job having other things to go with the run so we came together to throw on a great open house with a pretty good turnout.” There was a silent auction, a bake sale table, a table for Autism Speaks, and, of course, a Photo Booth. The day went well despite the weather being against us. Huge shoutout to everyone on the philanthropy team for pulling off this event and making it another great year!

Founder’s Day

April is the month of our Founder’s Day and this year we had the honor of being able to celebrate with several of our alum! We hosted a ceremony half way through April and are so thankful to all of the Alum who came out! We really appreciate you for taking time out of your day to help us celebrate what brought us all together. Although we didn’t have the ceremony on our actual Founder’s Day, which occurred on a Wednesday this year, our sisters posted on social media about what this chapter means to them and how thankful we are to have the ten inspiring women all work to help start this chapter. They have truly helped us realize our potential. Natalie Lindsay, our Academic Achievement Director said this about our ceremony, “Founders day was eye opening to listen to why all of our founders were so passionate about Alpha Xi Delta and how they grew from their experiences. This day is important to stop and reflect on how our chapter began and all of the strong woman who led us to where we are now.”

Greek Week

There’s nothing like a little Greek competition to grow as a community and this year our Decade Domination theme helped all of the chapters do just that. Our Greek Goddess, Hannah Nelson, had this to say about the week long festivities. “I think it went really well! A lot of sisters came out to support and get involved in the Greek week events. Even though we didn’t win, we had great chapter morale and I think it was a good bonding experience for everyone!” Katie Alger, our house manager, was in charge of the trivia events that occurred on Wednesday during Greek Week. “I thought Greek Week was super fun and successful. It was a great experience getting to be on the committee that planned the events and I loved getting to see my hard work for Trivia Night come together in a friendly competition! It was a nice wrap up to my senior year to not only plan such a popular event but to work alongside other passionate Greek community members!” It was no surprise that this was one of the most fun days of the whole week! Friday was the service day where five of our sisters went to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank to support our community. Senior Sammi Conrey had this to say about volunteering, “I volunteer at the food bank often and love seeing the impact it makes on the community even though it may be a small one. I think it is a great way to bring everyone together and remind us there are those less fortunate than us that may need a helping hand every now and then” A new part of this year’s Greek week was the challenge to collect items for the Panther Pantry that was started here on campus as well. The points that were earned from collecting items for our local student pantry ended up being the deciding factor in who won Greek Week. Although we weren’t the winners, it was still fun to get to hang out with other Greek members and bond with our sisters.

Coming Soon

Next Year

As the semester comes to an end and we are taking our time saying goodbye to the seniors, our sisters are greatly anticipating the semester that is to come. First on the docket is recruitment. We have been working hard with our Membership Vice President, Nicole Martin, and our Recruitment Events Director, Lexie Pairrett, to make this recruitment the best it can be. Next year, we’ll have our Taco’s with the Alpha Xis event that is always a hit and of course, we’ll have our formal and celebrate the sisters who have impacted our chapter. This semester has been one to remember, and we can’t wait to start making more memories. We hope to see you then...

Always with Xi Love,

Your Delta Chi Sisters
