Spring Into Sisterhood

March was a month that was much needed as we enjoyed a great spring break and many moments filled with sisterhood. This past Friday was our sleepover sisterhood that is always a blast. There was canvas painting, games, movies, and, of course, pizza at the sleepover where we got to hang out with our sisters after the first week back from spring break. Our sister, Mili, had this to say about the sleepover: “The sisterhood sleepover was so much fun! I loved being able to paint canvases with sisters, but my favorite part of the whole night was playing Catchphrase because we all got super competitive and it just made the whole thing a blast.” Thanks, Casey for hosting another great sisterhood!

In addition to great sisterhoods, we also had a wonderful mixer this month! The girls of Gamma Phi Beta joined our sisters and went to the philanthropy event that Alpha Delta Pi was hosting. We got to eat pasta with some sisters while making great connects with not only the Gamma Phis but also with the women of Alpha Delta Pi. Hannah J, our mixer chair, said this when asked how the day went: “I thought it was a really cool idea when Gamma Phi Beta suggested going to Alpha Delta Pi’s philanthropy as our mixer, I loved the idea of supporting ADPi and their philanthropy while also mixing with other greek life!” Thank you Hannah for setting this up!

Moreover, this month’s Inspire program embraced the idea of spring as we sprung into some sisterhood bonding. We took the time to go around the circle and hear from every sister about experiences from their childhood, words to describe them, songs that relate to their life, and so much more. The night started off with some relaxation and reflection of our weeks and ended with M&M’s! Sarah , our Programming Director said, “It went well and I hope people got something out of it! It was different than anything else that we had done before.” The night was exactly what sisters needed to motivated them through the rest of the semester! Thanks, Sarah!

TOP STORIES

Spring Break

We always look forward to March for the break that we get half way through our semester! This year our sisters traveled all over the country and the world. Here is where a few sisters went:

Nicole Hassenstab spent her spring break traveling to 6 different cities in 9 day with an organization called Student Impact. Every city they stop in has a volunteer project that they complete. This is what Nicole said about her trip: “I thought the trip was very rewarding and impactful in so many unexpected ways. I loved being able to serve so many different communities, and being able to see the impact we were making was so cool. Hearing people tell us how much they appreciated what we did was really humbling, and made me want to do even more. It's amazing how much college students can accomplish especially when people have preconceived notions [about] college students on spring break. It was amazing to be a part of an organization that helps prove those stereotypes wrong.

Brandi Ragan made it all the way to Mexico and mentioned this about her vacay, “We went to Cabo in Mexico. We stayed at a resort. We pretty much just hung out by the pool and ocean. We did a whale watching trip and took a boat out and saw whales and sea lions! It was more of a relaxing and try to tan kind of vacation.’

Sarah Ritondale attended the Saint Patrick's Day Parade and this is what she had to say about the experience. “This spring break I went to the St Patrick’s Day Parade in downtown Chicago! It was quite the experience being down there so early. My friends and I love going to watch the river be dyed bright green and then watching all of the crazy floats that go by as well as all of the talented people playing music. It was a great time being able to dress up in all my St. Paddy’s gear and spend some time in the city with lots of people I love”

I hope that everyone had as great of a Spring Break as we did!!

All Sorority Speaker

At the beginning of the month, all of the sororities came together to listen to an amazing speaker. Bobby Audley was brought by Panhel to speak to us about how to get energized and keep a positive outlook. Caroline Hunkele, our Finance and Operations Vice President enjoyed the speaker saying, “He was an interesting speaker, it was good to get to know more people in the greek community. I was glad that Panhel invited someone that we hadn’t experienced before.” Audley gave us the space to meet new people, learn about their lives, and share about our own. It was such a great way to interact with our Greek Community!

Retreat

Earlier this month, we got to have a much needed retreat where we interacted with sisters while dressed up in our best Hawaiian themed clothes. It was a time for fun and games, but also for bonding and learning about our sisters in a way that we have never had the chance to before. Mackenzie Lutz, our Chapter Events Director mentioned that “I really enjoyed the group activities. There was a ‘recognize a sister’ activity where we tapped on sisters’ shoulders who had made an impact on the chapter. It made me really happy to see how I had affected my sisters in a good way. Overall, I thought the day brought us sisters closer together.” Likewise, Marie, our Autism Understanding and Acceptance Chair quoted, “I thought that it was a lot of fun and it was a really good chance to be able to bond more! The Hawaiian theme was optimistic for future weather. My favorite part was the trust activities that we did between sisters.”
